Prehistory : From 70 000 to 10 000 BC
According to researchers, the Neanderthals possessed weapons and stone tools and had his body covered with hair, therefore had no need for clothing. They lived in caves, and it is around 70 000 years BC that transportable shelter became a necessity to protect them against bad weather as they moved from one hunting area to another. They took the habit of taking the skins off the animals they had just killed to use them as a protection from the sun and the rain. These skins were hung on branches and transported from one site to another during the hunting season. The changes of weather from rain to sunshine were quite rare, so the rotting of the skins dried under the sun happened rather slowly.According to the experts the conservation would last 7 to 8 days, which was enough time for a hunting period. They would get more skins during the next hunting season.
