Knight Templar figurine The Templar Order was founded by nine knights in 1118 A.D. in Jerusalem who created an order of 'warrior monks.' King Baldwin II granted them part of his palace for their headquarters, which was on the site of Solomon's Temple. It was from this location that the Order took its name. The primary mission of the Order was to protect pilgrims on their journey to the Holy City and to safeguard Holy Places which had been taken away from Muslims by force. A decade later, the templars were officially recognised as a religious order.
